The Embrace of Two Mountains: In 2025, our collaboration with Zen teacher Sanriki Jaramillo, founder of Montaña de Silencio in Medellín, Colombia, began. We affectionately chose to characterize the mutual enrichment between our practice centers as an embrace between the mountains, Montaña Despierta and Montaña de Silencio, and between the countries, Mexico and Colombia. We believe it is essential to contribute to the development of Buddhist meditation practice in Spanish-speaking countries of Latin America. Sanriki Juan Felipe Jaramillo is a priest and Zen teacher with over thirty years of practice and a community leader; he is also the president of the Board of Directors of Montaña de Silencio. He received Dharma transmission from Jiryu Rutschman-Byler of the San Francisco Zen Center in December 2023. Montaña de Silencio is a community for the practice, study, and teaching of the Soto Zen Buddhist tradition belonging to the lineage of Shunryu Suzuki Roshi, whose origins date back to 1989. Since 2016, the community has been accepted as a member of the Branching Streams of the San Francisco Zen Center.
